Have you booked a fishing charter during your vacation when you were younger? That's exactly what we did in December 2023. My dad organized a charter with Captain Jeff of Pole Dancer Charters on the ICW from Port Orange. Our main goal was to catch some impressive fish, such as Redfish and Tarpon.
We departed from Port Orange at 7am, with Captain Jeff at the helm. Our journey to Ponce Inlet proved to be a bit rough, so we decided to stick to the Intracoastal Waterway. Captain Jeff had spotted a school of large red fish and tarpon near the inlet in the days leading up to our trip. We spent a couple of hours drifting with pin fish for bait, hoping to lure in the larger fish. Despite only getting a few bites and catching a sea catfish, we decided to explore the backwaters.
We continued navigating the backwaters for the rest of our journey. In our quest, we unexpectedly discovered an incredibly fruitful spot that would captivate any young angler. Mason's fishing skills allowed him to catch a multitude of fish species, including Jack Travels on nearly every cast, a few redfish, and a couple of mangrove snappers.
Mason and Captain Jeff were engrossed in conversation, and Jeff mentioned some people on his boat who caught an eel and chose to keep it. Intrigued by this story, Mason questioned Jeff for the rest of the day.
Having other guides work with your youth is crucial for the development of their fishing careers. Every angler has their own way of doing things, and young people are especially adept at learning skills and applying them to various situations. To this day, Mason still recalls some of his experiences with Captain Jeff in Florida and is eagerly looking forward to fishing with him again in 2024.
